A Bouquet of Thoughts Through Travel, Sociological Understanding and Compassion
M. Nadarajah presents to us in his Living Pathways a bouquet of thoughts gathered through travel, sociological understanding and compassion. He invites us on a journey of self discovery and asks us to reconsider what we know as certain. It is an invitation to unlearn not necessarily the past but the manner in which we learn. Nadarajah asks us to take a fresh look at nature and society, of communities and prosperity, of growth and development and links the wisdom of the past to our perilous present. And in doing so he warns us Asians not to replicate the Western industrial model even as Asia surges ahead to find abundance in wealth and wealth in monetary abundance. The book is replete with pictures of great serenity and the calm and vibrant colours beckon us to tracks that have not been sullied by pollution and greed. The text is crisp and at times anecdotal, which allows a wider readership to participate in debating what is indeed the most critical of crises that the world faces. If development is to be truly participative then the tomes must also allow sharing of thoughts and for words to be transparent and truly engaging. Nadarajah combines in this volume the insight of the scholar and the story telling of the raconteur.
